Google Mobile First

Google Mobile First

advertising-036Did you read my previous post “Is Your Website Mobile Friendly”?

Well that was Googles first movement towards a mobile experience for its search results.

As from the New Year (2017) Google will start rolling out its “Mobile First” update. This is going to turn the search results upside down! If your website is NOT in top shape for mobile users by the time this update goes live, will see their websites drop down the search results. No question! And that basically means is your website mobile friendly?

Up until now Googles search results have always been ranked based purely on the PC Desktop version of every website. Then not too long ago they brought out a different version for those people searching on a mobile, so for those people a different set of results was shown based on how mobile friendly the websites were.

This is about to change!

Google will now deliver ALL their search results, whether you access them by PC or a mobile device, will be based on the mobile usability of every website.

Basically if YOUR website is not mobile friendly and optimised accordingly, your website WILL drop in the search results like a stone.

Has Your Site Been Hit By The New Google Updates?

With Google rolling out change after change this September, the month was pretty busy for SEO folks. First, many SEOs saw major shifts around September 1st — this has been dubbed the Possum Update, and reports are that both organic results and local pack URLs moved substantially.

Secondly, Google has officially confirmed on the Google webmaster blog that they’ve begun rolling out the Penguin 4.0 real-time algorithm.

But if you think that your website might have been hit by one (or both?) of these updates, how do you figure out which one that was? Do you need to revise your backlink profile or look through the local packs? No need to panic — in this post, I’ll explain what each of these changes are meant to do and help you figure out how and when they impacted your websites.

What’s the “Possum” update all about?

6 Steps on how to make your website load faster

6 Steps on how to make your website load faster

6 steps to make your website faster For every second your page delays, you have an 18 percent decrease in customer satisfaction, which results in 12 percent fewer page views, and 10 percent of conversions are lost.

These statistics were confirmed by both Amazon and Walmart by increasing 1 percent revenue for every 100 milliseconds improvements in page load speeds. Slower website loading speeds will result in a loss of revenue and decrease in customer satisfaction. The following six steps will help you decrease your website loading speeds and increase your revenue.

Minimize HTTP Requests

According to Yahoo, 85 percent of the page loading time is spent downloading the various Web page parts including the images, flash, scripts and style sheets. Make your pages load faster by decreasing these elements on your website. Reduce the number of scripts on your website or relocate them to the bottom of the page.

Make use of CSS as opposed to images whenever possible. If you have several style sheets, consider combining them into a single sheet to reduce the number of elements evident in your page.

Activate Caches and Cookies

Whenever you first visit a website, details of the site are stored on your hard drive. Upon future visits to the site, the page will load faster because the browser will have those details locally and will not have to make an HTTP request to the server.

You can make your site load faster by enabling cookies and cache for your site. A great WordPress plugin to help with this is W3 Total Cache.

Optimize Your Website Images

Images are one of the greatest culprits in slowing down your website. Images should be optimized for the Web to increase download speeds. Any image-editing tool will allow you to resize the image to the correct size for your page. Also, web browsers can only show images in a 72 dpi resolution, so uploading larger images will only slow the website down.

For WordPress, EWWW Image Optimizer or WP Smush are two plugins that can not only correct the image sizes as you upload them to your site, but can resize all your existing images as well.

Limit the Number of Plugins

Plugins can greatly enhance your website performance, but too many can bring that download speed down. Plugins can also create security issues for your site or conflict with one another and cause your site to crash. Test your site offline before adding any new plugins to check for conflicts and then run data speed tests to make sure that it hasn’t slowed your site’s performance. Deactivate or delete any unnecessary plugins on your site.

Encourage Compression

Large pages take longer to load, but you can increase load speeds by compressing your site. The GZip Ninja Speed Compression plugin will allow you to do just that. GZip only works on Apache servers, but most all WordPress sites run on Apache, so that shouldn’t be an issue for you.

Minimize Web Redirects

One of the most common reasons for redirects is to redirect mobile users to a mobile friendly page away from the main site. While necessary to increase the mobile user experience, it does create another HTTP request, which will slow your site down.

It is best to use a responsive web design, but if a separate site is necessary for mobile users, Simple Mobile URL Redirect or WordPress Mobile Pack are two plugins you may consider.

Fast Web loading speeds are crucial for better SEO and better user experience. These six simple steps will lead you towards a faster, more profitable, and higher ranking website.

Critical Website Mistakes That Local Businesses Make

135While online marketing presents some extremely great opportunities for small businesses today, many of them have yet to reap the rewards.

Consumers today spend a lot of time online, so the internet is an extremely powerful way to get in front of your local target market and generate more leads, sales, and profits.
However, some companies are going about the whole process the wrong way. Whether they are attempting to handle all of their online marketing themselves, or not really engaging in it at all, there are some critical mistakes that should be avoided.
In this report, we will discuss some of the most popular online marketing mistakes that business owners today are making. Not only are these mistakes completely avoidable, but some of them could actually be detrimental to the success of your local business.

Mistake #1:  Not Keeping Your Existing Customers Coming Back

Did you know that, generally speaking, 80% of business comes from “existing” customers while 20% comes from “new” customers?

Failing to market to your existing customers could have an extremely negative impact on your profits; while you wonder why you’re struggling to meet your goals.
Generating repeat sales is so much easier than bringing brand new customers through the door. However, many businesses still ignore this fact and spend all of their time, money and efforts going after brand new business.
While actively seeking new business is definitely a good thing, ignoring your existing customers is the worst costly mistake you could make.

Several online marketing methods work very well for generating repeat business, such as social media, email marketing, text message marketing, video marketing, local search engine optimization, and others.

These tools help you stay in front of your existing customers, as well as build long-lasting, trusting relationships with them; this ultimately means more repeat sales and an increased ROI. However, many companies fail to utilize them.

In order to truly stay connected with their customers, businesses should seriously implement some of these powerful online strategies into their marketing funnels. Check out how you can take advantage of our 2016 Email Marketing strategies HERE

Is Your Website Mobile Friendly?

Is Your Website Mobile Friendly?

mobile friendly websiteApril 2015 is fast approaching and Google are on the warpath yet again!

Do you remember the search engine ranking changes that happened over the last couple of years or so called Panda and Penguin? They obliterated hundreds of thousands of websites overnight just purely because Google decided that they did not give the user enough of an experience! They played God essentially.

Unfortunately, for the foreseeable future, Google is our main source of free website visitors. so we have to conform to their wishes or risk having our websites disappear without a trace in their search engine results. I can personally vouch for this as I lost 2 money making websites 2 years ago and I have never been able to get them back to anywhere near the top couple of pages of results! It is not a nice feeling I can tell you.

So, this time around, at least Big G are actually giving us fair warning of the impending damage and havoc that their changes are about to make.

This change, which Google have stated will be more destructive than either Panda or Penguin, is all around mobile friendly websites. Basically, if your website does not show up in a user-friendly fashion on mobiles and tablets etc Google will NOT give it as much credence in its mobile search engine rankings. In laymans terms, your website will get knocked down the search results, maybe even disappear! Now, with mobile searches far outweighing those made on a desktop pc, this should be cause for concern!
